Non-traditional funerals have been on the rise in recent years as people look for unique ways to celebrate their lives after they have passed. Just some of the more creative ideas we’ve come across include:
- Cremated remains scattered into the sky with specially designed fireworks
- Eco-friendly alternatives like aquamation (body being dissolved in water) and freeze-drying
- Donating your body to science
- Being a part of the Great Barrier Reef
And in the not too distant future, we could be adding “delivering a eulogy at your own funeral” to this list. Especially if businessman Carl Minardo has anything to do with it.
Delivering a Eulogy With Hologram Technology
Businessman Carl Minardo has recorded a 10-minute hologram eulogy which he plans to “deliver” at his funeral. Whilst holding a martini the businessman says to mourners:
Hologram technology has already been used to resurrect singers such as Michael Jackson, Tupac and Maria Callas. Carl Minardo wants the technology to expand, so that hologram eulogies become a common sight at funerals over the coming years.
Hologram Eulogies At Funerals
While some people might think hologram eulogies are a little creepy, Minardo has found the opposite to be true. Once he shows people the eulogy he has recorded for his own funeral, most of them end up in tears. There are also other benefits to a hologram including absolving loves ones of the difficult task of delivering a eulogy, and being able to record your hologram while still in the prime of your life. Most people hate the thought of being remembered as sick or dying.
“Eulogies are hard to do. It’s a stressful time, why burden your family? This is a wonderful vehicle to eulogize yourself, to create a life legacy that you’d like to have people know after you’ve left.”
Convinced? The technology is currently only available in the United States, but is expanded to expand worldwide as demand grows.
